Jobs Connect: matching skilled professionals with customers, plus deliveries

The problem

Kenya has many skilled plumbers, electricians, mechanics, cleaners, tailors and technicians, and many people who need their help today. But they struggle to find each other. Customers rely on word of mouth and hope the person is good. Skilled workers wait for calls. And both sides worry about payment: customers don’t want to pay before the work is done, and workers don’t want to finish a job and not get paid.

The goal

Build one place that connects skilled people to a ready market: customers describe what they need, the right professionals nearby are found quickly, and payment is safe for both sides. Then add deliveries, so riders can earn too.

What we built

• Hire a pro. Customers describe the job in their own words (for example “my kitchen sink is leaking”) and choose their area.
• A matching engine. Jobs Connect works out the skills the job needs and ranks the verified professionals nearby who have them, with a match score for each.
• Find work. Professionals create a profile with their skills, experience and location, get verified, and receive matching jobs.
• M-Pesa escrow. The customer’s payment is held safely until the job is done, then released to the professional.
• Reviews and ratings so good workers stand out and customers can choose with confidence.
• Delivery module. Riders enrol, get approved and offer deliveries. Customers can send a parcel from the same platform.
• English and Kiswahili, switchable on every page.
• Post a job, browse professionals or become a professional, all from the home page.

How it’s built

• A mobile-first web application that works well on any phone, on mobile data.
• Separate accounts and dashboards for customers, professionals and riders.
• M-Pesa payments with escrow logic, so money moves only when a job is confirmed.
• Verification of professionals before they appear in results.
